Official Splatoon 2 Pearl and Marina Artwork Released For Splatfest

SplatoonJP is pitting the fanbases against each other less than a week after the reveal of Pearl (Hime) and Marina (Iida), and today we’re gifted new Pearl and Marina artwork. Rock or Pop, Ice Cream or Cake – which will you choose?

The Splatoon 2 Pop Duo [Off The Hook] had official Pearl and Marina artwork added to the SplatoonJP Twitter account today.

In Japan, the duo are actually named Hime and Iida, with their pop-partnership named Tentacles. Completely different – Hime means Princess in Japanese, while Iida can be interpreted as Octopus. Fitting names – Pearl looks like a Princess, and Marina looks like an Octopus.

The trend on Twitter is a mass popularity swing towards Hime (Pearl) for the Japanese fanbase, while in the West, it’s Marina (Iida) who has taken the spotlight. In the lead up to the Splatfest, SpaltoonJP have started to rile up the fan-bases.

The topic for the Festival Eve Splatfest is [Rock VS Pop].
When speaking of Rock, you think of the ear-splitting, metallic sound of electric guitars, a beat that shakes your entire body, and shouts that jolt your soul.
Lending your body to the loud sounds, shaking your head without thinking, and uncontrollably jumping up and down.
That’s definitely rock!

Pearl is definitely the rocker of the group – her personality and demeanor is much louder than the reserved Marina.

No – there’s no way Pop could lose.
Sweet melodies, painful harmonies, lyrics that penetrate your heart, it heals you – with crowds of people cheering you on, right?
In other words, Iida’s fans are people who’s lives have been influenced and changed by her.
That’s definitely pop!

How sweet – we’ll get to know more about Pearl and Marina when Splatoon 2 launches 21/7.
